Mike Bent- Marshall is a member of ACMOC chapter 2. He was at our AGM this year, I think he has restored a Ruston number 4 excavator.

We had a Scammell at Beacon plant,I think it was GM powered

i worked for bent marshall in the eightys and drove OYH197R it was fitted with a detroit two stroke , they also had another scammall which i think was an amazon (not sure if that is the right name for it ) which was fitted with a rolls royce and was very sluggish, they also had a volvo F12 and an old ERF i drove all these at one time or another including mike bent marshalls XJS!

Welcome Rob-I've seen a pic of OYH on one of the Flickr photosites still in Honers colours in a scrapyard,but some text that goes with the photo states that it has been sold on -hope fully for preservation. :thumbup: Regards Tim

For those interested I saw the owner of Honer Plant, the now retired Richard Lonsdale at the weekend at Chichester ploughing match on great form. :D

A local Plant firm Franklin Jay,here in SE Essex, had a Crusader in the 1980s. You could hear the screaming Detroit miles away and it was probably the only one that was regularly local.

Sad to see another plant firm gone Clive,i remember seeing their plant in the west Sussex area,they ran a Ford Transcontinental on low loader work at one time.

Hi Tim, there'll be more packing up in the next few years I think as it gets harder for the smaller boys. It seems large turnover small margins is the way its all working now. The smaller companies have a job to compete and make any money unless they offer unique services. :cry:

Still, on a lighter note Matt Lonsdale, Richards son showed me a load of old photo's of their kit a while back. I'll have to twist his arm and get some posted up. Here's hoping....... :thumbup:

Probably one for trucks and plant but their is a nice Crusader behind the Fiat Allis track loader........
