Hello angus,
Yes always busy which is a very good thing, lots of big tackle to move in the coming few weeks,To help we are having a couple of top spec 5 axle nooteboom stepframe trailers which will be 9' 6'' wide, our 4 axle that we have now is 10 years old and to date nooteboom say that it is the only 9' 6'' stepframe in existance so to that end we would have had the three that has ever been made.if the two replacements are half as good we will be happy.
Have a happy new year Regards Graham. :D

Plenty of movements and investment in new kit have to be good signs for the economy - long may it last.
Years ago when I was involved in abnormal load movements (not on your scale!) 9' 6" was, I think, the max under C & U before notification, is that still so? Special Types existed as just one classification, with notification to police, county councils, GPO, Ministry of Transport and uncle Tom Cobbly and all. No STGO 1/2/3 in those days.
Our new Broshuis trombone step frame (pic attached) was state of the art in its day!

Hello Angus,
It is roughly the same now 9' 6'' before notification and over 44 tons, but you have all different area set ups now as well as the highway agency poking the snouts in ,it's now a massive paper trail,Network Rail have got their hat in the ring as well,On a positive side the police have very little to do with Ab Loads nowadays but VOSA can be a bit of a nuisance at times,After all those tossers know more about the job than us. :eh: :eh: :eh: .

In my day it was West Midlands police that were a total pain in the butt. They were at loggerheads with all the surrounding forces and we would waste hours waiting at the "county line" for escorts. Unlikely as it may seem the Metropolitan (London) Police were the best organised and most helpful - I think that they just wanted us off their patch as quickly as possible!

Hello angus,
The worst of all without doubt were in my opinion were west mercia, total bastards,Gwent police were very traffic orientated but in all fairness to them when they used to pick us up there was very little tyre kicking and all that nonsense ''tachos driver please'' etc.
