would it drive up the ramps on to a low loader under its own steam err diesel power or would it need to be winched on due to lack of grip ?

I like that, I've always been tempted by a Diesel powered one to compliment my BSD10!

What sort of availability have you, I'd like to take a run down to your place for a look if you don't mind, assuming work commitments allow :-(

That really depends on the angle of the low-loader ramps. Modern semi low-loader trailers are a bit more of a challenge and more frightening than an old knock out axle or swan neck design! I've found plywood on the ramps works best. Rubber conveyor belting gets flirted out in the wet.

Andy

Yes it drives and grips well but steep ramps can be a bit hairy even with ply on them. Last time we moved it the ramps on the low loader were a bit savage and we helped it up with a telescopic loader behind it. Winch assistance is always a good comforting feeling! I have also moved it with a flat bed skip for a big hook lorry. The angle of lifting the skip looks a bit scary but provided you have some serious chains on it that works well, have also moved my D7 4T the same way. I could arrange that mode of transport, at cost.

I am around most of the time so by all means give me a ring if you want to see it and drive it.

When I load my roller I hook up a winch rope to the towbar just to be on the safe side.My GA is a little lively
Great to see rollers posts on CMN  wish we had more on here.

Seems like quite a bit of interest in this; A couple of CMN members are coming down to have a look and a test drive. it is a lovely machine and it will be sad to see it go, but my collection keeps growing and evolving and you need to rationalise some times. Nice thing is there are a nice bunch of people out there who appreciate this sort of engineering and want to preserve and play with it.
