While I was down town snapping Coleman's at work this crane also took my attention, it was working on the site where the new Tesco and other shops are in the process of being built at West Bromwich.
I'm no crane expert so have no idea what this self building crane is but have called it by what was written on the cab door, whatever I thought what a smashing piece of kit it was.

There are about 7 of this particular size crane in the UK/the Republic and this one is from across the water from the other side of Belfast.

Looking at the van in the photo, it would be a fair guess to say that it was over here on cross hire to Birmingham Crane Hire.

This time next year, Liebherr will have basically the same crane available (they already have a Liebherr MK110) but offering a better capacity and more jib options.

Thanks for that Wee Heavy I knew somebody on here would know what that crane was . It was certainly a useful piece of kit and I would imagine it would be at that location for the next day or so because there was many bundles of roof panels to lift up to the shopping complex under construction.

Bloody expensive to hire ill tell you that! The roofers on one of our jobs at stoke had one in 2011 and i think it was about 5k a week to hire! Somewhere around that mark anyway!

Came across another one of these Spierings cranes today in the centre of Birmingham; I had wondered if the operator had to clamber up the ladder to reach the cab but the external lift soon answered my question.
A nice piece of kit.

Same here but I haven't a head for heights where I can directly relate to the ground, okay in an aircraft though! The crane operator stopped the lift half way up and leaned out of the lift cage to shout something down to one of the lads on the floor; like you say must have balls of steel.
