Hi all im Chris, im new to this site and was drawn here by the thread about the Neal cranes, there was a chap from Wortley Top Forge museum which have a Neal Runabout mobile crane but looking at his profile it seems hes not a regular on here, Iv recently bought a similar Neal crane which is currently a non runner and wondered if anybody has any information, manuals, experience using/repairing them. Apart from the one at the museum and mine iv never seen another, are there anymore out there???

Hi Chris and welcome to CMN

That is a very intresting little crane you have there; I don't think that there can be too many left but just ask any repair questions that you may have as there is a very broad general repair knowledge base on this forum and other CMN members may just be able to help you out with info.

Hi Chris,
Welcome from me too.
I've never seen a Neal Runabout though I have worked on other Neal products. I'd love to have that in my yard, it would keep me bussy for weeks. :)
Please ask if you think we can help.
At least The Runabout belongs to an age where common sense and a basic knowlege would get you by, nothing computerised there.

Thank you for your comments guys, the only problem i have upto now is working out how the throttle linkage should go, if there was one? or should the engine just be set at a certain RPM and left at that, the engine is a JAP Model 6 single cylinder

Cheers, Chris

Just thought id give you a little update, iv got the engine running! but its still not got any throttle control so is just sat on the tickover screw, heres a short video of the first run-

Theres also another video on my youtube of the Foden ballast tractor pulling the 8 wheel Foden mobile crane chassis off the low loader to get the cab done, but thats another story!
