Re: Iron Fairy
That Mk1 looks a gem, and very rare now!
Interesting that all the IF6's in the photos on the first page of this thread have been modified to have two rear castings fitted. I don't know if that was done to increase the capacity (presumably that on its own would not be enough - other bits would need beefing up to suit?). I hate to think what that would have done to the steering with the crane unladen, since on mine it is virtually impossible to steer at low speed, the steering is so heavy. But then again perhaps I have a fault with the power steering.
Here's a photo of my 1961 Iron Fairy 6 lifting the boiler from a steam loco. The boiler has been stripped of tubes, inner firebox, smokebox and tubeplates and as a result is within the capacity of the "Six". The crane is extremely original - original engine (BMC OEB diesel), and all original load safe load equipment. Still lifts for a living, although at the moment the braking system is in pieces due to a footbrake fault.

Re: Iron Fairy
Looks very versatile! Must be great for indoor applications like installing steel structures inside of buildings. Thanks for the post.
