Type is a C4046 crawler crane.
I hope there are more photographs of this crane out there.
The most of these type of cranes were sold in England.
You see them barely outside the UK.

I first learned about SMITH machinery from an article in "Equipment Echoes" (the HCEA magazine) many years ago, which I found very interesting at the time. Seeing these machines in pics on this forum, and seeing the smith-cranes website from the Netherlands really helped me to learn more about this amazing equipment. I'm quite impressed.

Here is my contribution - a Weldex machine photographed in the late 90's in a storage yard they had near Inverness.

Hi,
I found these pics of a Smith, (I think it's a 40/50 :?: :?:), at work. It Belonged to Thomas W. Ward who owned Smith Rodly and Marshall Fowler in the 1950s and 60s.

They were also big in the demolition / scrap business in the 1960s. I well remember them dismantling the railways after "The Beaching Axe" fell on British Rail forcing the closure of branch lines allover the country.

It's one of the first C4046, about 1968/1969. (46 tons lifting capacity)
Great pictures, may I use one of them on my website?

Thank you very much Fred, pictures of a 40 are very rare, you see often more the Super 10, the Smith 12 and occasionally a Smith 26 or an 28.
But never the less, they all welcome. :D
