Help needed

Post #1 by Rodney828 » Tue Aug 26, 2008 11:39 pm

Hello All, I am collecting information on mobile and lattice cranes in operation in the UK and Europe.
Is there anyone out there who can help me with this?
Also I am listing all of the models within manufacturer's ranges.
For example: The Liebherr LTM range runs from the LTM1030 through to the LTM11200. What would be helpful is if someone could tell me what cabs etc are the same within this range.
There is a lot I want to learn so as I am the new boy here I won't be cheeky and ask too much straight away!!
But if there is an enthusiast out there who can help me, please reply.
Many thanks.

Wow Jack!! That's impressive.

I need to know loads. Things like, I understand that PPM was bought out by Terex some years ago who have agreements with Demag!?

Also in the ranges of various machine manufactures, the driver's cab and crane cab are the same for much of the range. Then after a certain tonnage the cabs will change.

There is a lot I need and I don't want to push it, but if you can help it would be much appreciated.

My email is tonyowl828@hotmail.com if this makes things easier.

Thanks once more

LTM 1300-6.1 - LTM 1500-8.1 - LG 1550 - LTM 1800 (LTM 11000 DS)

The Demag Operating Cabs :

The crane industry has consolidated in recent years into fewer companies offering many different types of cranes from a single source, though often under multiple brands:

Terex have built up their crane operations through a series of acquisitions and Terex Cranes now consists of:
- Terex Waverly- US built rough terrain & truck cranes
- Terex American- Crawler cranes- currently badge engineered IHI cranes
-Terex Bendini- Italian built rough terrain cranes
-Terex Comedil- Italian built tower cranes
-Terex Demag- lattice boom and telescopic boom cranes (crawler and wheeled)
-Terex Franna- Australian built articulated all terrain cranes
-Terex Peiner- German built tower cranes
-Terex PPM- French built mobile cranes
-Terex Atlas- hydraulic truck mounted cranes (Hiab type)
Terex also owned the P&H construction cranes business, but I don't think they use the P&H name any more.
See http://www.terex-cranes.com

Manitowoc Cranes
-Manitowoc- lattice boom crawler and truck mounted cranes upto 2300t capacitie. Smaller models are badge engineered Kobelco crawler cranes
-Grove-various types of telescopic mobile cranes. Grove itslef incorporated Coles Craned and Krupp cranes operations (names no longer used).
-National Crane-truck mounted telescopic cranes-US specific design.
-Potain- a French manufacturer of tower cranes

These are some of the other major crane manufacturers, but there are more!
Liebherr
German/Swiss group who build mobile, crawler and tower cranes

Marchetti
Italian built telescopic mobile and crawler cranes

Sennebogen
German company building mostly crawler cranes

RB Cranes
UK manufacturer of crawler cranes and Priestman grabs, owned by Clarke Chapman and the successor to Ruston Bucyrus
http://www.clarkechapman.co.uk/

NCK
UK manufacturer of hydraulic crawler cranes, a shadow of its former self in the face of stiff Japanese and German competition

Hitachi Sumitomo
Hitachi and Sumitomo merges their competing crawler crane operations together with a jointly developed new product line

Kobelco Cranes
Japanese built crawler cranes from Kobe Steel

IHI
Japanese group best known for their crawler cranes and mini excavators.

IBH,

Thank you so much for you message, it is extremely helpful.........and extremely impressive!!

Not wishing to patronise you but you obviously know your stuff.

Do you have the dates of the various acquisitions and mergers etc?

Model date changes would be helpful if you have them.

Do you know anything about cab design consistency withing range of models of the various manufactues?

For your information I am writing a book on constuction machinery operational in the UK and Europe. Whilst I have much data already, the majority being photographs and brochures, the questions above are areas I am lacking in.

I do hope you will help and look forward to your reply.

Thank you

Tony

Liebherr Model Numbers, LTM 1500-8.1, Has a meaning. 1500 Stands for 500 ton capacity. All the liebherr cranes have a 1 infront of the capacity. 1500-8.1 Is 8 axel and .1 is the version so some cranes like the LTM 1220-5.1 has its twin LTM 1220-5.2.
Same goes with Demag cranes, The new and Not been delivered to any companys yet the AC1000-9, -9 = 9 axels....simple as

The liebherr LG 1550 Which is a lattice mast crane, Same upper structure as the LR 1550, Crawler Crane, and the same carrier as the LTM 1800.

The Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 weight 160 ton with TY Guying sytem Loaded. It has a maximum counterweight weight of 165 ton. Its has a boom which you can rearange from 16.5 meters to 50m to its 84m maximum. Its Luffing/Lattice Jib is 14m to 95m.

Liebherr

LR Crawler crane
LG Mobile lattice mast crane
LTM Mobile boom crane
MK Mobile self erecting tower crane
LTF Truck mounted telescopic crane
LTC Compact crane

The Liebherr LG 1750 (Biggest out of the two LG's in their range) at first look has the Exact same upper structure to the LR 1750 but the rear main body were the counterweight is mounted is longer to the LR 1750. This is because of the height of the the slew ring (Higher than the LR) counterweight needs to be placed back further to ballence out the crane. For transport the whole amount of boom sections ( Obviously   ) and the upper structure has to be removed from the Slew ring up.

Hi Jack,

Thanks again!! I seem to be taking here and giving nothing- I will send you a free copy if published. Well even Dan Brown must have started somewhere!

Photos would be great, particularly if they they have the model and year of manufacture etc.

Cheers

Tony :D
