Hi Jeremy,

Any reasons for only making one. I would have thought that the market for a Hymac crane would have been pretty healthy.

Hi Philip,

I have heard it said and I don't know how true this is...... that it was Hymac who spent far too much money on trying to develop and sell cranes as well as excavators when they should of stuck to making excavators.
I do have a few Hymac crane pics apart from the obvious 480/580 and 1050 cranes, the one in the pics posted by IBH is classed as the 1150 its capacity was 40tons so I believe and was unique.
The best selling crane that Hymac made was the 675 of which 45 were made between 1969-1972 and these were made for pipe-laying, they were based on a 610C chassis.
I think that Hymac were trying to break into the crane market but they would of done far better by buying out a then current crane manufacturer as they had done when they bought Whitlock to break into the back hoe loader market.

There was one of these 40 tonners in a
industrial yard in Barking Essex for many years,
I dont think this was the only one built.
A friend who worked for Amec for many years
remembers 2x new ones on a job.

Hi Geoff,

Hymac did make several cranes but this particular one was unique and I have that from the horses mouth so as to speak, cos that came from official Hymac info. :ugeek:
