HI
When I worked for Cardiff Plant Group they took delivery of a Hymac 15 ton tellescopic on an AEC chasis in 1969. Only one i've ever seen. Drivers didn't rate it because it had mannual screw stabillisers. Sorry no more information.

Yes Fred, they also made a telescopic crane based on a Foden six wheel chassis too but I have no info on that machine, have seen a couple of pics of it though.

Re: Hymac Crawler Crane!
Well if you ever wanted the opportunity to preserve a unique piece of engineering and construction history then take a look at this;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hymac-40-Tonne-Crawler-Crane-Approx-80ft-Cummins-V8-/330563831483?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item4cf723c6bb
This must be the one that Geoff was talking about down in Essex and I can confirm that there was only ever one built, now I have spoken to Richard Gould about this and the real sad thing is that in reality this crane faces the gas axe and it does not take a lot of working out either 40 tons @ £200 per ton
I sincerely hope a serious machinery enthusiast see's it and buys it rather than the torch, how much industrial heritage must we lose to greed and short sighted ignorance?

Re: Hymac Crawler Crane!
It is deceptive isn't it, it doesn't appear to have much in the way of counterweights given that it would lift 40 ton!

Hi,
Talking to someone who drove that crane and he seemed to remember the model was called "The Highlift." and the name of a planet, couldn't remember which. I thought Hymac used model numbers rather than names but he was pretty positive about it.
I didnt say in the last post, but the AEC chasis was a six wheeler.
If I remember rightly the cab was badged Mandator.

Re: Hymac Crawler Crane!
Fred that one is a Hy-Lift 1050 crane; the Hymac cranes were all referred to as Hy-Lift from what I can gather.
There were only around twelve made and only one of the larger 1150 cranes; there was also a crane fitted to certain 1080 machines which looked similar to the one's mounted on the 580 series of machines.
