Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a little guidance please.

I have a 6 ton Iron Fairy Sapphire, its tired and needs a look over to make working again.
The crane starts on the button. It has a ford 6 cylinder diesel in. The hydraulics work, steering works, the problem is the brakes.

They are air assisted drum brakes, I have read they are Girling 2LS style brakes but im struggling to find anyone who will supply parts for these.

What i'm after would be any information about the crane please, does anyone now what commercial vehicle the running gear was based on as I doubt the original manufacturers would have designed specific drum brakes when something off the shelf for a 60s/70s bus or lorry would have been available.

I'll add a few pics of the old girl here

Hi Richard I would think that you may be right and the axles made by an axle manufacturer, they could have also been made by British Twindisc have you looked on the axles themselves they may have an identification plate on them?
Brake linings should be no issue you could get those re-lined with new friction material quite easily there are companies that specialise in that, sorry I can't be of more help.

Richard,

Assuming you have not already contacted the link below, this company specialises in Iron Fairy Cranes

http://www.southdownengineers.co.uk/

Alternatively, Crowland Cranes at Peterborough have carried out Jones crane refurbishments.

Hope this might be of some use.

Thanks for the reply's but unfortunately this old girl was sold to a local chap wanting to use it to just lift things on and off a trailer in his yard.
