Paul it looks like one of those self erecting mini-tower cranes, quite fascinating if you have the time to stop and watch; nice pictures Dave.

It is a SPIERINGS 7 axle mobile tower crane. Apparently it features a 42 metre boom where it can lift 5.5 tons at 37 metres in height.

Correct it is a Spearings, City Lifting operate a few down here in the South East they can be erected and put to work in about 1/2 an Hour, a nice bit of kit. Great pictures BTW.

I'd take a guess at the answer 'yes' no more clambering up ladders; unless somebody knows differently?

It does, yes. The cage is winched up and connects to the bottom of the cab. The driver then climbs in via a trap door.
