Re: Allen Crane
In the early 60s I got a job at Thos W Ward in Grays Essex , and my very first job was converting an Allen Face shovel
to a crane. Ward bought the jib,the derricking unit and a front cab and everything to make it into a crane We done the conversion in about six weeks the machine was going to go into the hire fleet in Wards. When I took it out on a road test the handling and the ride was diabollical as luck would have it a Company called Carty Plant from Wickford bought it and that was the last I saw of it. Brian Crowther. Ps as I remember it had a Gardner 4 LW engine and no swing brake it was a real pig to operate.
