muir hill dump trailer

Post #1 by allistairc123 » Thu Nov 27, 2008 1:28 am

has anyone seen or know where there is a muir hill dump trailer?
we have one that has been modified and it would be nice to see another one as they seem very rare.

Hi Allistair,

Nice to see some good Muir Hill photos, i have seen one other trailer years ago at Jeremy Walkers yard at Witney oxon along with a nice 161. Is that your ex army shovel? another item on my shopping list!!!
Just for interest, i am getting up and running an early series 1 110 Muir Hill.

Cheers John :D :D

Hi Allistair,

These Muir-Hill trailers were designed by David J. Brown of DJB dumper (later Cat artic dumper) fame, and in the original publicity photos it was him at the wheel. They used a type of weight-transfer hitch using a ram, I don't know if yours still has that.

Nearer to you, T. B. F. Thomsons in Garvagh built dump trailers for Muir-Hills up to 25 ton capacity, possibly after Muir-Hill stopped their own.

Dave.

yeah, thats our shovel, it makes a good picture with the dump trailer.
i have a good collection of muir hill pictures including original publicity photos sold on ebay by the grandson of muir hill advertising man- E.l briggs, i managed to get a copy of his little book on ebay also.

also, i was wondering does anybody know what the brackets on the front of our 141 tractor were used for? i have lots of brochures, but have not seen anything showing what they are used for. i thought they were a d.i.y modification, but i have seen them on another muir hill as well. thanks

allistair

Is it possible that it may have been fitted with a small blade perhaps with a land drainage team?

Hi, I think i would agree with Essexpete, the brackets would be for a blade of some sort. Bomford made a blade kit for Muir Hills, i think i have one in the nettles. But the brackets on your tractor i dont think are Bomford. :D

Cheers John
