Vintage Honda F800 walking tractor - CDI problem service/workshop manual (G300 CDI engine)

Post #1 by tb108 » Wed Jan 30, 2019 2:32 pm

Hi!

I have an old Honda F800 walking tractor. Built somewhere in the early 1980 years. Dunno for sure bought it used a couple of years ago. It has no spark at the moment. I suspect the CDI unit. It has a Honda G300 engine with CDI. But unlike Honda/etc motorbikes with CDI it has only 3 cables going to the CDI unit (one seems the interrupter switch) and the ignition cable coming out.

The service/workshop manual would be great to get hold on or some wiring diagram of the ignition system with the specs (resistance and alike) to be able to prove its really the CDI or rule it out.

Thx a bunch for any help

Hi Michael and welcome to the site  must confess I have never heard of such a beast let alone seen one; good luck with it, let us know how you get on with it.

Hi Jeremy!

Here is one of those Honda F800:

There is a trailer mounted, so you do not have to walk. But there are multiple tools that can be mounted, most without the trailer, for agricultural purposes such as rotary cutter (powered by the engine), plow, seed attachments and so. You can even plow snow with it.

It has 6 gears forward and two reverse. Even if the 7 or 8 Hp do not sound much, it can tow wit the trailer 600 or more kg easily.

Thanks Michael  sadly I lack much when it comes to electronics and with any vintage machine it may not be easy to get hold of a workshop manual, if I were in your position I think I would be looking for a good auto-electrician to sort it, just an idea.

Thx for the hint. Though i am qualified to do the work, without the needed data it is impossible. Also iirc CDI ignition systems have never been used in cars, for various reasons. Just motorbikes and small garden and alike machines as well as generators. In addition the ignition coil and the CDI unit are one part, which different it from the motorbike ignitions. ;-(

This may be useful http://www.honda-engines-eu.com/en/welcome.html
but are you sure about the G300 as the only Gs shown with no other alpha prefix are the G100, G150 and G200. If you go to the Service section there is a list of engines but no G300
Most Honda engines have a model specific reference consisting of several alpha numeric characters stamped onto the block. When I say stamped it is sometimes a rather feint "dot matrix" which takes a bit of finding.
If your engine has a low oil safety switch which kills the spark, pull it out and give it a clean. They have been known to stick.
