Fiat 513r Hood / Bonnet

Post #1 by oakdean » Mon Sep 10, 2018 12:03 am

Hello all, l got an email from a lady asking me a question... Just wondering if anyone can help. Its regarding a Fiat 513r Hood.
l will put her questions here as she sent them.

We have an old FIAT 513r tractor that we are trying to get going.... We have an issue getting the bonnet to work
and we think that we may be missing a hinge mechanism that fits on the mount and allow it to swing free of the chassis
(Not sure.....)
We have purchased manuals in an effort to get this info with no luck.
When we got this old tractor the hood was just sitting on top. The tractor had been modified so that the exhaust came out of the
side rather than the top. We got that sorted then tried to fit it onto the bonnet mount then realized that it must have a hinge
mechanism or something missing as putting the bonnet straight on the mount meant that it would not open due to clearance
needed when you tried to lift the bonnet up.
We r thinking that it is maybe a hinge that we might b missing but r really not sure
As you can see from the photos we are trying to work out how to attach the bonnet to the mount so that it will be
able to b swung/ lifted open. It has a bonnet mount and Bonnet bracket but maybe we r missing the hinge that will enable us to join
them them together so that the bonnet does not hit the chassis when u try to open it.. :dizzy:

If you have purchased manuals then surely there would be instructions on how to swing the bonnet open? I would ask the previous owner if they knew anything about how the bonnet should open if you still have their contact details? If there was a hinge then is it still available from the manufacturer at a reasonable price; if not any chance of getting a used one, failing that a visit to a local engineering/fabrication company and get one made.
There may be somebody on here who may have experience of these tractors and who could advise you better; good luck.

Have you tried any tractor wreckers , they were a reasonably common tractor in Australia in some areas

The sugar cane growing areas were a common spot for Fiat as were the older grape growing areas

And yes the Fiat tractor manuals were pretty basic back in their day compared to manuals of 70's and 80's but I feel with plenty of these still been used in these areas it shouldnt bge to hard to make contact with a owner to find your answer
