The Classic Machinery Network

On first post, be kind I have gotten what I believe is a 1964 B414 gas model mechanical fuel pump was removed and electric put in place. Carburetor has been rebuilt. I can get the tractor started but it seems to want to shut off after about 10-15 minutes or when put under a load such as running the bush hog. Any help would be wonderful.

Hi Frank,
Plugs, points, condenser, and coil are all good for causing a hot shutdown. If it's new to you and you don't know the history of it, then these parts including the HT leads could be viewed as suspect and for the cost of it may be worth changing them out anyway.

I pulled and checked cleaned plugs they looked good not worn all did receive fire new rotor installed forgot about that part. So off to look at points coil and condenser then. For a free machine I am guessing not to bad off?

What is the HT leads?

Sorry, the high tension leads are the four plug leads and the king lead which runs from the coil to the distributor.

Hi Frank and welcome to CMN hope you get your machine sorted; all good advice above the only thing I would add is that back in the 80's I had trouble with a car I was running at the time, it turned out to be points and condenser even though they were new parts that had only recently been fitted, trouble is you tend to think 'well I have already changed them' but sometimes even new parts can be duff.

When it stops running does it still have fuel in the carby ???
When you crank the throttle a few times can you see or smell fuel ??

If not there may well be something floating around in the fuel tank thats getting sucked in or restricting the inlet a bit and when it goes under load a lot it struggles for fuel
