John Deere 2140 Engine

Post #1 by CHM123 » Sat Oct 17, 2015 11:28 am

Considering replacing the worn out engine in a John Deere 2140 (Model 4039) with a low hours industrial 4.5L John Deere engine, model 4045DF270. It looks like it will fit with the appropriate modifications, accepting the lower power, torque and engine characteristics associated with an industrial unit. So far I'll need to use the 2140 Flywheel, engine plate & sump, assuming they fit, then sort out the pipes for the coolant as one is on the wrong side. Primarily I'm wondering if anyone knows if any reason it can't be done, as otherwise I'm likely to be able to answer this question myself in the very near future. I fitted the same engine into a '76 JCB 3C MkII previously and after a few teething issues, it's worked fine for the last 5 years - now it's just a case of putting it back into a John Deere.
