Re: Fowler Crawler Swampy
Hi Paul,
As you say there weren't many of these VF LGPs, but in 1957 when the VF was replaced by the Track Marshall, (which was only a VF with a Perkins L4 engine), they continued to produce an LGP version. I saw one at the Smithfield Show in Dec. 1957.
They went on to produce a TM55 version in 1959 and the six cylinder TM 70s in 1962.
These found favour with The Forrestry Commission as ploughing tractors.

Just to add to the Track-Marshall LGP discussion; I found this interesting video on Youtube a while back.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etsAXKCGiws
County also produced a range of LGP crawler tractors with one amazing machine having both very wide tracks but an extended wheelbase as well.

Re: Fowler Crawler Swampy
I see also the Forestry Commission in later years used specially converted International crawlers . Apart from the information on the forestry memories website anyone have any more info on these machines, or indeed any of the long wide track crawlers?
Almost seems enough of a subject for a book!! Actually considering all the special equipment used in forestry, the long and wide crawlers and the ploughs they pulled, the tractor conversions (James Jones conversions of County's) used to harvest the timber, etc I'm surprised there hasn't been a book published on the history of British Forestry Machinery

Re: Fowler Crawler Swampy
Hi Andrew,
Here's a long forgotten LGP crawler the Platypus 30 Bogmaster.
A.C. Howard of Rotary Hoes fame, who produced the Platypus range had previously had an interest in Fowlers. After leaving Fowlers he launched the Platypus 30. Transmission design was a copy of the Fowler FD2 and it was powered by a Perkins P4.
In 1954 the Bogmaster version appeared together with a matched crawler tracked trailer which was powered by the tractor.
See pics. below plus one of standard tractor with Condor 1.5 yard box.
Fred

Just remember to have the pto lever in ground speed and not 540!
If a LandRover doesn't leak oil, it's run out.
