Hi all
I`m looking for info on a david brown tractor that needs some serious tlc.
I think its a 900 series around the late 50s,the brakes are non existant ,at first glance there doesn't seem to be any brake drums the linkage disappears into the rear axle, one of the linkages is seized
somewhere in the axle casing.
I need some help identifying braking system it looks like an outer axle strip to me.
ANY info gratefully accepted
Norm

Re: DAVID BROWN TRACTOR
It will have internal drums with dry brake shoes. Need to remove the axle housings. Now I know little else about them but would suggest while in there, replacing any oil seals that should keep the transmission oil out of the drums. Also,if the tractor has a diff lock, tie down the diff pedal before removing the RH(normally) half axle.Things can fall out of place and be a pain to get back in again if you don't.

Re: DAVID BROWN TRACTOR
Hi,
As Agrimax says , you will have to draw out the reduction units to access the brakes. That's no problem on these tractors.
I worked on these tractors quite a bit, even went to DB at Meltham Mills on a course, but that was back in the early 1960s.
The memmory has faded a bit so I just looked at the D B download on here, check it out, it tells you all you need to know.
You wont have a diff lock if it's a 1950s "900" or "950" , they were first fitted to the "990" in 1962.

Click on the doadload section at the top of the page. Scroll down to the farming equipment section.Click on David Brown, and the last one in the list has the details. Might be for different models than yours but they're all much the same.
