Are the 6.354 engines sort after?

It's a real shame combines aren't as "collected" as vintage tractors.

I can't say I've ever seen a vintage combine at a show come to think of it.

A 6.354 is probably the best engine Perkins made, certainly up to the 90s.
Fitted to MF tractors and combines, TM crawlers, Leyland Trucks, Muir Hills and umpteen industrial plant, generators and pumps. They were reliable up to about 120hp but some were turboed and intercooled up to 150hp - probably a boost too far.
Combine engines are particularly attractive most will only have 2000 hours or so of moderate work, if I was selling one my target would be £500.

Dodge/Commer trucks, JCB excavators, Weatherill shovels, and marinised in some motor cruisers of the 60s/70s.

Woody3 there are occasional working days and shows where you will see old combines working but they are awkward to move compared with a tractor.

Problem with combines is the size of them and moving them around, not so sure many show organisers would want a combine with 12' + bed trundling around the site.... Whatever would the Elf and Safe Tea guys make of that I wonder!!

thing is with a combine its a bulky thing with a very limited opportunity of use which also needs a lot of parts (chains, belts, wearing parts a lot of which is no longer available or pricey), plus the window for using them is pretty limited, unless you have your own crops to cut and can afford to waste time setting it up and tolerate the reduced output.
For the shows its not so much the HSE at the site but it would be a pain in the proverbial to move them there.....trundling along at 10mph....and the traction belt breaks.....holding up the traffic.

Hello David,

Good to hear from you. All well at this end of the world. The Grockels have all gone home now so we can cross the main road in under 5 minutes now!
Got the corn in the barn, not bad sample, pity 'bout the price, but hey ho.,.....now getting ready to throw some more in the ground.

Richard

Understand about the Grockels Richard. Round here it's horses and riders. In my opinion all road-going nags should be made to have road tax and at least 3rd party insurance, an MOT that includes an emmision test, and any drivers should have a valid driving licence. Not being controversial am I ?

Seen in the Colsterworth area today, an MF515 ready for inaction.
