It was a tight fit when the shunter towed the whole lot on to the ferry's loading deck. The trailer wasn't going across!

I had been told to drop the trailer in the docks, and return at 6am to load the combines. When I duly turned up, the trailer and combines were gone. They had changed shifts during the night and the new shunter assumed it was all going.

We had to back a load of paddy waggons off the boat so I could drive on, hook up, then knock out and unload the combines inside the hull, then reverse up the ramp. It was quite an adventure.

The ferry left two hours late!
