Thanks Richard,
i had noticed that New Holland were the first to have a rotary- for some reason I thought IH were the first!

thats just the seperator up behind the main drum, knocks out any grain left in the straw after its been through the concave.

Rotary is a diff. concept entirely with diff variations on a theme....essentially the IH rotary is a drum length-ways in the machine and the crop goes round it 1.5 times (average) with no straw walkers, its much easier on the grain (less cracked ones) but much harder on the straw.....unlike the New Holland design which has a smaller threshing area - approx 110deg of concave/drum area and then long straw walkers to shake the grain out, here the straw is treated better
