Sorry Dennis, one chap said he would start at £20p/h plus lodge. This was put to the hirer and he agreed to stick the rate up to accomodate the drivers wage.He never turned up.Lost the hire to Greyhounds Cat 14G and they had same problem a week later so I believe.I would have driven it myself at that rate! but too busy in the yard.
What is the world coming too when you can't get men to work for that wage?
That was a few months ago before the so called credit crunch.I think a good few operators are out of work now so you might find someone to pull the levers. That said, good dozer and grader operators will still be hard to find.Lots of good excavator men out there may want to diverse into graders now eh? ;) .In our part of the country we seem to have lots of good excavator men and not enough dozer men.
Good luck mate

Just remembered a lad that used to drive a D8 and box for me from your area.He was called Jeff Halam I think and he was a good operator. From Ashington way I think. He was on a D9H for Shaw Bros when I first met him but he was a grader fan if I remember rightly.I will see if I have his tel no'.
