them graders must be one of the trickiest things to operate. most things you can get by after an hr or 2. but one of them you need serious hrs operateing it just to get the basics. would'nt mind having ago myself oddest thing i have had a go on was a cable drag line, face shovel 60rb thingy. very strange with useing your feet for braking.

Well Jim,fair play mate .Most men under 90 won't go near a grader for some reason and if you get good at it you're in for some good money.3 years ago I was looking for a Cat 14G operator to work on a coalsite on 5 day week. The first lad that was there for a few months was killed in a seperate accident and the second operator wanted £20 p/h plus the lodge. The main contractor accepted this rate increase as they could see the benefits on production with the dumpers and scrapers but the operator(who was good) jacked after a week saying he couldn't be arsed .We lost the hire to Greyound Plant(now bust) who had the same problem and after another week of f##ing about they got binned too.In the end one of the D9's used to clean up occasionally and production slowed.
Hang in there mate and get good on it

The haul road maybe where you start, but as you get more comfortable you'll be chasing those windrows and making pretty patterns. The more confident you get the more the machine will feel an extension of yourself and you'll get more accurate and more able without realising it! Rome was n't built in a day, nor was the M1! We all start at the bottom of the pile, the only way is up!!!
PS, you're a lucky git!
