Help needed with grader

Post #1 by nugget » Sun Oct 31, 2010 10:14 pm

I'm looking for advice about our grader. (sorry no pics)

All I know is it's big and yellow and now on 3 wheels. I believe it could be an Aveling Barford, it has a Leyland engine so possibly from the 60/70's. It is used quite regulary until 2 weeks ago when a wheel fell off when going around a corner(not good).

So we have now got a new wheel bearing for it but can't find any hub nuts and locking shim for it. She needs to back on all four wheels soon before the sheep rub it away (makes a good scratching post for them).

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Mark

Hi, Nugget.
I don't KNOW of any Aveling Barford grader parts sources but a Google seach has just turned up a couple of 'possibles':

http://angloamericanservices.com/AVELING%20BARFORD%20SITE/surplusparts.html

http://www.partsexport.co.uk/plant.php

http://www.klcinternational.co.uk/conspares.htm

http://www.kambasinvestments.com/index.php/kambas/aboutus/category/profile/

If all else fails or the dollars seem to getting out of hand, it may be worth seeing if a local engineering shop can make the nuts and lockwasher that you need. Those old girls are too handy a machine to let a little thing like a leg falling off sideline it.

Hope this helps.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

hi,

Thanks for the help. I am after LH front but strangely the nut has right hand thread so not sure if the hubs have been changed years ago before we got it.
