STEAM LOCOMOTIVES

This link is of two steam locomotives storming up Lickey incline, one of the steepest grades in the UK just south of Birmingham. These must be pushing out their maximum power of around 6000 horsepower. These locomotives are crewed by drivers from the same company I work for.
Put your headphones on and turn up the volume and enjoy. The photography is first class and grabs the atmosphere of a bygone age.
Hope you like it

Ahh some good old Iron...

I like the old steamers better than the moderns locomotives. For example the big American locomotives Huston, Daylight and Big Boy is some of my favorites.

All that power from coal, water and the skill of the driver and his hard working fireman. With the boilers rated at 250psi these engines have to have a very indepth boiler tests and then be certified to run on Network rail track.I have done a bit on steam preservation years ago,it was very hard dirty work, but enjoyable. We finnished the day off in the nearest pub. With the cost of diesel they may make a comeback.Tornado, the new steam loco was built last year.

I doubt it, with coal now at £300/ton and a thermal effeciency of about 10% we've some way to go yet ;)

I was thinking about if we can't get no oil / fuel. We have 90 million tonnes of black gold in Wales that has yet to be mined. The way things are going in the middle east you never know  Foden steam tractor delivering Tesco goods to your home.
Many true word spoken in jest.
