when i was out seeing coleman's 984 being moved i noticed that all of the coleman wagons and G.R.Formby's wagon all had a small sign on the front saying "STGO CAT 2" i wandered what this means

can anyone help with this??

not 100% sam but i think its to do with the weight they can carry or somthing to do around them lines :D

there was something in earthmovers about it ages ago! Im going to have a look for it now as its doing my head in as to what it means!

cat 1 46 ton
cat 2 80ton
cat 3 150 ton
knowing less and less about more and more until pretty soon i will know almost nothing about practically everything

STGO= Special Types General Orders!

Cat 1 is mostly for oversized rather than heavy loads!

Cat 2 and 3 require a minimum of 6 to 8 axleswith maximum axles weights of 12.5 or 16.5 tonnes respectively!

ahh thanks all, so i guess that the more axles you have on a lorry the heavier the weight they can carry

and is that counting just the axles on the trailer or is that including the tractor unit aswell??

Thanks for posting that link, Gordon, that's an interesting article. I'm pleased I'm not involved in STGOs it looks like a beaurocratic nightmare !

it is, heavy haulage is the easiest target for arrogant police officers to "get" their statistics up for so called motoring offences. regardless of movement orders etc, some just see a big load as easy prey. they ought try the job. roads are bad enough being full of idiots without thier hassle. in my opinion and experiance, unfortunaltly the majority of the law give them a bad reputation.
