Poem for my son

Post #1 by bigkit » Mon Apr 07, 2014 7:51 pm

I found this in the draw, I wrote it for my son over Sunday breakfast some years ago and I thought I'd post it up, a bit of vanity publishing!

I hope you like it................

It was early one morning and the day was just dawning
As Alex was beginning to wake
His Dad was outside as Alex said
"can I come Daddy, I'm out of my bed?"

Hurry up son I'd love you to come
But we had better talk to your Mum
We'll get your clothes and boots to match
We'll pack your lunch and your hard hat

The journey to work was lots of fun
The roads were quiet and empty
They bounced along in their little van
Dad tried to take it gently

At work there was a digger
It's what they'd come to see
All shiny and bright and orange
And Alex held the key

Up climbed Alex who opened the door
full of excitement, his face full of awe
Dad started the engine the machine came alive
And Alex asked Daddy to teach him to drive

Up came the arm and with it the bucket
Loaded with earth Alex just loved it
Along came a dumper and took a big load
Of mud to the tip down the building site road

The hole got bigger as big as can be
As deep as a well and as wide as the sea
But all this hard work had taken its toll
So the father and son then stopped for a roll

Out came the lunchbox and out came the flask
Out in the sunshine refreshments at last
The two hard workers resting together
Making the most of the fine summer weather

Rest time is over and on with the work
Alex and Daddy moving piles of dirt
The digger purred and the dumpers roared
Alex helps Daddy to load more and more

It's the end of the day and time for home
Leaving the digger on site all alone
So it's back to the house in search of some tea
Where mum will be waiting for Alex and me

I recall this one.......
'You should see me in a JCB'The wheel's so high, they'll touch the sky'
Bucket so wide it'll stop the tide,
You should see me in a JCB....
