1970s barford beaver

Post #1 by G6zbv » Mon Dec 02, 2013 8:40 pm

Hi has anybody got any technical information / handbook ?

Just in the process of re-building

I am planning to use this dumper for launching a boat on a shallow gradient beach, the reason for choosing the barford is that this model the engine and gearbox sit quite high and shouldn't be too stressful going into the water as deep as the footplate.
I am going to carry out a couple of mods to the cooling air inlet to prevent salt water getting in as well as clean water flushing for the brake plates.

It's a work in progress but so far a lot of fun.

I bought this dumper off ebay for a song

It hadn't run for years. Two days of sensible servicing it's a runner, re building the brakes at the moment they were seized.

New back valance fabricated to support the mudguards properly.

Hope to be painting in January

It's gonna be one hell of a beach toy

Cheers

Seen a few dumper beach tractors, some running hydraulic winches off dump ram pipework, sounds interesting.
Fordson Majors are THE beach tool in my part of the world , but starting to get pricy as the restoration boys now want 'em.
Not all those who wander are lost.
