help me identify my dumper please

Post #1 by darclassiccar » Thu Apr 04, 2013 8:11 pm

Hi all. I'm new to this website-found it by accident actually! Was wondering if you could help me identify this dumper. Bought it for 100 euro when i was building my house and it never missed a heart beat until recently (clutch is about to fail and steering box broke). Have grown rather fond of the old girl and rather than dump her would like to try and restore. I have restored plenty of classic/vintage cars but have very little experience with diesel.
I have plenty of questions!
What model petters engine has she?
Any advice or information on suppliers in southern Ireland would be much appreciated.

Fairly sure its a Thwaites , which is a good start as easy for spares.

It does look like a similar style to the Thwaites Nimbus/Orion models but the 60s model we had was left hand drive.

Hi,
Yes, it's definately a Thwaites dumper, you can see the chain drive and drum clutch in the one picture.
Firm I worked for in the early 60s had one like it that I worked on, circa 1958/9. Driver was on the right, but I don't remember the model.
From the likely age of the dumper the engine may well be a Petter AVA1 Mk.2 not a PH1. Both engines look very simila.
