Couple of pics of a couple of new 740 adt's we are sending out on coal hauling detail. sorry about pics, they were taken in our paintshop.
500mm side boards and an extension to the rear tailgate make sure we can get 40 CuM of coal in at least.
Couple of stickers on the side to try and stop them filling it with muck instead of coal and my favorite touch, a stripey back door.
Should be out on site with them in the new year working so will get a few "action" shots.

Re: new 740 coal haulers
Back in Feb, went out to weigh the 740's to see what they are carrying,
Got some mobile scales and away we went.
Carrying around 13.5 ton (!) of coal!
Checked and double checked and still the same!
After talking to the forman, found that the density of the coal at this particular site was low, (he said we normally put 4 buckets onto road wagons with the 970 but on this site it was 8 - 9) after measuring the bodies, guestimated they are carrying 40 m3 of coal.
Measured a couple of trucks in Scotland with the same bodies on and found they were carrying 28-30 ton.

Nice photos SRB, where in the UK are these machines working? I have seen UK coal using standard 735's and D350E's but i've never seen these with coal bodies. Nice looking machines.
Keep the pics coming!

Re: new 740 coal haulers
Rereading the posts, I have to say I'm amazed at the difference in bulk density of coal, from 28 - 30 tonnes per 40 cubic metres to 13 - 14, seems incredible, a factor of 2 !
I wonder how the calorific values differ, would you buy by the tonne or metre cubed ?
