Thwaites dumper

Post #1 by wispa » Thu Feb 04, 2010 7:09 pm

What oil do i use in the gearbox of my old thwaites all drive? Ive sorted the bent gear stick and when i had the cover off i noticed it looked quite gloopy so am going to drain and change. Also any idea on how much gearbox oil it needs. Theres no markings on the dip stick and im convinced its been snapped off as its only about 10 cm long but could be wrong.
cheers

Which model ot Thwaites? I think I have used an ep 80/90 in our old 4000. What you need to watch out for is water ingress down the gear lever gater.

Looks like a similar but slighty newer version of ours. Is that hand crank? If I get a chance I'll have a look at our one. It could do with a run.

edit: Ours is the model fitted with twin petter, front axle breaking only. It has a Newage 3sp gearbox. The dip is combined with the filler plug. From the seat of the plug to the high level is 108mm and there is approx 10mm between the H and L.

Don't use ordinary ep in the axles with oil immersed brakes.

Can any one help please. I have a Thwaites all drive dumper believed to be 1994 I've got an engine number but no chassis number. I have examined every inch of chassis and cross members. To register it for the road I need the technical info to fill in the v55 form ,Thwaites will not give me the info without the chassis number . Dvla will stamp a new chassis number if I fill in the v55 form. (I am going around in circles)

Would anyone out there have a registration document for a similar dumper for the data use only.
