So if you inverted it the filler plug would be on other side ?

Had this problem before (tyres rubbing on skip) and it was incorrect tyres/wheels fitted, can't remember now. As Jeremy stated you would have 3 reverse and 1 forward if you reversed the axle, and a substantial increase in height at the drive wheel end as looking at the pics the axle would have to be bolted under the chassis. Does it stand level as it is?.

It is a simple physical thing,if the axle had the drain at the bottom and you set the steering wheel and seat position facing the engine the dumper would then be a conventional vehicle,but it is not a conventional vehicle and was purpose built to be the way it,very little of those dumper were made by Thwaites,the frame and skip same applies to all the other makers even today.

Is this similar to yours? note the tyres, and zooming in on the diff it looks like the plug is on the top.
