Benford TT25 layrub spec?

Post #1 by Steveg668 » Tue Feb 19, 2019 6:53 pm

Afternoon all!
My TT25 has spat out one of its layrub couplings... more to the point mangled it! in the process of parking up its mangled it some more- making disassembly difficult without resorting to fiery wand and or angle grinder.. I'm also currently almost 600 miles from where said dumper is, so a quick measure up is out of the question.
Anyone know what the dimensions/ part number / specification of said item... will be easier to source a replacement here where I am compared to where dumper is!!
Many thanks in advance..
Cheers!
Steve

Never heard of this part, what is it?

Would be a good idea to make one before you go to pick it up. Parts generally are not available over the counter. Also a model number would help others as to see if they have any parts that may help you out.

Hi Steve and welcome  John I think that it is a rubber 'donut' type drive coupling  from memory they used to fit them on the Hillman Imp car way back; the idea is to provide some flexibility between the transmission and the actual drive shaft. What happens is the rubber perishes over time and the thing collapses.

Hi Steve,
Google "David Cornwallis," They are at Leominster, Hereford. They Will probably have what you need in stock.

You will find details of the dimensions of the "Leyrub" range on their website. Click on general parts and then scroll down the list to Leyrub couplings.
They supply mainly Thwaites parts but will probably be able to identify the coupling you need for your Benford from your model or machine number.

Cheers, you learn something new each day. It is used instead of a universal joint but does a similar job. Some other early vintage cars had a similar idea but they used a rubberised canvas as plastic was not up to this stage if flexibility.
