Thwaites nimbus 15 cwt

Post #1 by ADunsby58 » Fri Dec 22, 2017 11:03 pm

Hi
We have purchased a thwaites 1 tonne dumper which we think is a nimbus 15 cwt. We also purchased the instruction & spares book but we need to know where we can source the spares & also are we right in our identification of the dumper?

Many thanks
Adrian

It does look like a Nimbus. Does it work ok? If it is working ok you won't need a lot for it! 2 things that ours suffered from many years ago was water ingress into the gear box via the gear lever gater and the same for the steering box. Presumably water got into the latter from the steering column. It might steer more easily with a more skinny tyre on the l/h rear.

David Cornwallis (see google) is a Thwaites specialist.

Looks just like the one I bought a few weeks ago which I think is a nimbus ,definitely check the steering box for water as I am in the process of repairing mine and it is not particularly cheap.
I would be interested in where you got the paperwork from as mine needs a few bits and pieces sorting out.
Best wishes Brian.

Thanks for your messages. This is where we got the manual from https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/THWAITES-DUMPE ... 0920323414

We have looked at David Cornwallis but we are struggling for a seat at the moment. Does he do old stuff or just new spares? I think we will ring him in the new year.

Many thanks
Adrian

David is very knowledgeable on the Nimbus. Ive had a few parts off him, and his lads are very good.

Ive got a Nimbus, if you have any questions...

New purchase... Nimbus ?

Have a look at my thread here... I've got the workshop manual on page two as an attachment.

I would not want to let him loose on my constant mesh dumper however nicely he had painted it! 'kinell!
It did take me back to the first thing that I was allowed to drive. I found it hard to start as I was not very big at the age of 11. I had a piece of baton across the rear tin work to flick the decompress lever. The steering was questionable and I think in reverse on full lock it could jam. Smoke! Oh how it smoked especially when I could hold the governor open with my foot. A royal telling off from my dear old Dad.
edit when I say old Dad he was 16 years younger than I am now. :(
