Aveling Barford/AEC 690 dumptruck

Post #1 by Yewman » Tue Jan 31, 2017 3:14 pm

Has anyone got any photos of an Aveling Barford 690 Dump truck, looking good.
In fact nice shots of any A-B would be good, we can follow on with the oily rag photos later.
There seem to be a lot of rusty ones around. There are some on Flikr etc, but it's proving hard to get hold of the owners to get permission to use the photos.
I am doing a Facebook page called Aveling Barford Machines, which is a history of all the machines made from 1945 to factory closure in 2006.
Just the Dumptrucks and Rollers amount to nearly 50 different machines, then there's the Graders and Loaders .
It is going to be a long job, but useful for anyone interested in Aveling Barford.

If the photos are on the web and you attribute them to a source would there be a problem?

I dunno much about this brand at all their 6 x 6 graders always have stood out to me

And I feel Pete is on the right track if you acknowledge who's photo's they are and were they came from is there any problem in using someone elses photo's after all they have put them on public display

You may be right, but you can't download photos from Flickr, unless the owner allows, and most don't .Most don't reply to messages.
One gentleman, however did come back, and allowed me to use some brilliant photos of Rollers.
I have given up with Photobucket, the search is non specific. Look for Aveling Barford Dumptrucks, and a whole load of stuff comes up, several thousand images, mostly nothing to do with A-B,or Dinkey toys, that is after you've waited an age for the adverts to load.
I will get round to the Graders soon, Paul.
The 6 X 6 all wheel drive and steer Super 500 was introduced in the early 1950's, followed by Super 600, and finally Super 700's. These were followed by the ASG 018, and the heavweight ASG021, called the Coalsite grader .
In the South Wales Open Cast Coalsites operated by Wimpey, and others, they had to park up the Cat 14's when it rained, as they just slithered around in the mud. Only the A-B's could keep the haulroads clear.
Biggest mistake I made was to only take wellies that came up to my knees to South Wales.

I have a couple of AB house mags from late 50's .
I will scan in a few pics when I have time ,no 690s though .

I have three of my own pics and two old film stills ( no one will ever make the connection) on flickr you can use-

Thanks Guys, I've got the photos I wanted now, with permission to use them.
The army one above is really good.
Interesting photos, Craig, anything interesting could be sent to info@lampstyle.com, or Facebook Aveling Barford Machines.
Thanks

That was snapped in the Market Harborough yard of Geoff Rhodes, the Scammell Constructor alongside earning its keep righting drunk tippers and pulling skip lorries and tippers out of local ditches.
