Thwaites Type BA1

Post #1 by imp » Tue Nov 22, 2016 4:03 pm

Hi, I have just bought a Twaites Dumper, it has a Petter BA1 engine, serial 5466. my question is; it started ok the other day (with a squirt of easy start)but now Iam unable to turn the starting handle very far , it seems that I am fighting against the engine! I have moved the decompressor lever but it makes no dfference! I am afraid that I am a little green but willing to learn. many thanks in advance Terry.

Sounds like the decompression lever is at fault. Put it in gear and rock it back and forth

Was it running ok when you stopped it? I would have thought if it is not decompressing correctly you could pull against the engine slowly and it would let go. does it bounce when you hit the hard bit or dead stop?

I have just bump started it ! I tried rocking in gear and giving it a hit but I could not turn the engine over. Iam guessing the decompressor lever is at fault? is this something that I can repair? many thanks Terry.
