thwaites 7000 hydraulics

Post #1 by Tomf » Fri Oct 16, 2015 1:29 am

Hi Guys,

Would anyone know if it would be possible to tee into the flow pipe ( just after the pump and before the spool valve) and return pipe ( just before the oil tank) to make a feed and return to run a log splitter . I've been thinking about making a splitter for some time now and if I could use the old thwaites 7000 as a way to power it that would be great.

Many thanks

Tom

Probably but it would depend how big the ram is that you are operating. It could be slow with a large ram dia. The other thing to consider is a suitable diverter tap and a spool valve to run the splitter with a suitable relief valve fitted. I guess another way would be to tee into the tipping ram supply with a diverter valve and a return to tank (not just pouring in the top) and lock the dumper spool in tip to supply oil to the slitter spool? Any ram larger dia than the dumper tip ram could be very slow.
