Post #1 by kitch16a » Sat Feb 01, 2014 1:33 pm

Hi to all I have a benford ps3000 2005 the problem is when we put it in gear and move around the site,we can select another gear or neutral, so it is stuck in gear some one has mentioned the bearing need replacing if so is this a big job to undertake, or should we send the gear box off to a specialist firm. The gearbox is a newage 85m. thanks to all paul kitchen

Hi Paul,

It sounds like the end of the gear stick has worn and slipped out of the selector forks leaving one still in mesh.
Its not a big job, it may just need the end of the gearstick building up with a bit of weld and re-shaping.
It would be worth checking the interlocking plates also in case they have worn.

Just whip the top cover off the gearbox (the bit what the gearstick goes through)and have a look.......it's not a major job and well worth a look first. It can be done without major surgery and shouldn't need the gearbox removing or the dumper taking off site.

If you don't feel confident enough (not sure of your skill level so please don't be offended by this), most fitters would be able to do this for you on site without any problems.

Have a look at the link of the gearbox I have posted, If it isn't the same gearbox it should be very similar, the bottom of item 30 (gearstick) should site between items 99 and 100 ( gear selector forks)and stay in line with the aid of the interlocking plates item 17.

Have a go...
