Thwaites 6000 - Clutch woes

Post #1 by Yozza » Fri Apr 05, 2013 8:58 pm

Hello folks,

I started the dumper today (first time) which stunned me! However, as I attempted to get a gear there was lots of crunching  She would only go in gear if I forced her and then she started to move

This really surprised me as the clutch showed no signs of imminent failure or slipping last time I drove it (months ago - before winter).

The rod moving from the clutch pedal to the bell housing had good travel although this does have a clevis joint on the end with a threaded bar (more adjustment required???).

Could this be a something simple (fingers crossed) or do I need to start thinking about a new clutch kit, if so, how much of a job is that?

Thanks in advance for any replies (hope I get them on this thread).

I would think the clutch plate has stuck to flywheel at a guess. I leave our old 4000 with the clutch wedged for this reason (rightly or wrongly).
If you have some space you might get it freed off by all sorts of unorthodox methods.

i had this problem with a classic car a few times, if u can drive the dumper around slowly while pumping the clutch pedal the clutch should free its self..... this is how i free them out every time im sure it would be the same on a dumper...
