Whitlock DD70 articulated dumper

Post #1 by ian.wheeler » Thu Apr 08, 2010 5:01 pm

Can anyone throw any light on a British articulated site dumper made around 1960? Matchbox Toys produced what they called the Whitlock DD70 "Dinkum" in about 1962. Here's link

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/d.jones...dex/dinkum.htm

I have failed to find any photos or information about the prototype and would welcome any leads.

Believe Whitlock made about 300 of them , Matchbox possibly sold a few more ! :D the front end under the fibreglass bonnet/cab was a Fordson Major tractor,

Their's a Whitlock thread here-

Anything Whitlock ( Diggers, dump trucks, cranes et al )

Hello Ian.
Idont know much about the Whitlock dump trucks but there were at least two other models
in the 1960's besides the DD70.
The DD95 was an 11 ton machine with a 95 h.p. engine.
The DD105 was a 12 ton machine with a 105 h.p. engine.
I would be surprised if both engines were not 6 cyl. Fords?? Does anyone know more????
Here are two pics I found on the net.

Thanks to XS650 and Fowler Man for pics and comments. Would welcome any others that come to light but these are useful progress for my modelling project.

Fred what skids do you think they used? The the 95 looks as though it might have a siox stud driving axle (inside the outer ring of bolts). Wondering if it was another Ford/Fordson conversion.

Hello again
I've no idea about the 105 axles but if you look at the photo. it appears to have two hub reduction drive axles, you can even see the diff housing underneaththe back.
Four wheel drive ???
The 95 certainly appears to built on a Ford /Fordson 6 cyl.skid.

The information I have on the Whitlock dumper range is as follows;

The known dumper range from Whitlock

Whitlock DD70 ADT An early original and first ever dumptruck with Ferguson mechanicals and steering.
Whitlock DD75 ADT An original Fordson 68 bhp engined dumptruck with Ferguson steering and wheels.
Whitlock DD95 ADT An original Fordson 95 bhp engined dumptruck with several tractors fitted on it.
Whitlock DD105 ADT 4WD The last Dumptruck model they made using 4X4 axles.
