Onslow Park 2013 Salop Steam Fair

Post #1 by Jeremy Rowland » Mon Aug 26, 2013 8:59 pm

I attended this event today which was as good as ever with plenty to see; once again I met up with fellow CMN member Mike Yates who had his JCB1 Gravedigger and JCB dumper on display. The dumper ended up in a spot of bother at one point and the Gravedigger came to the rescue, sadly I did not manage to get a shot of the 'wheelie' the Gravedigger managed as it freed the dumper.
All in all a great day out and recommended for any who live within reasonable travelling distance from Shrewsbury. Thanks must go to Mike who let me loose on the Gravedigger; I must say the diagonal action of the levers somewhat confused me but I did master it in the end. There is always some interesting kit there on display and a nicely restored Bedford TK complete with a restored Winget dumper took my eye.
The weather was glorious and yes I did regret not going back to the car for my sunblock
I will upload the photos in more than one go, there are quite a few that I have resized.

Nice to see the Leyland Marathon WTJ 120L has been restored Jeremy-it was originally a Leyland demonstrator before going to Welsh heavy haulier Tony Morgan

Hi Tim; yes the Marathon has been on the showground rounds for a while now, rumour has it that the first prototype Marathon had an AEC badge on the front grill, however this was removed before the truck was unvieled to the public.

Nice photos Jeremy , looks like the dumper got a bit too close to the trench!
Not many Bren Carriers on the show circuit they all went in the furnace after the war , nice to see one but body looks slightly dodgy , more of a pastiche !
Haven't done a single show this summer , but may get to Dorset Steam as on hol down there .
