Thanks for this. Fascinating stuff. Can't believe even then they were pushing trees over without sweeps, I wonder how many ops got crushed under palm trees.

The construction of airfields, filling in bomb craters etc and transport of equipment and troops during WW2 are often overlooked with the focus mainly on the battles. The part the railways in the UK during this period is also forgotten. Without the railways the run up to D Day itself would not have been possible with vast amounts of troop movements and logistics that had to take place in order to mount the invasion of mainland Europe.
