Whoops e daisys

Post #1 by Hammer man » Fri Jun 26, 2009 9:04 pm

Had my 1st accident today in 5 yrs.Was pecking away at the blast site, sat up a bund with a moat in front of me when a large rock(about 6ft sq)came down, into the moat & straight out at me.As i have a EC460 with my Montabert V45 hammer(normally on my ZX350),i have to run the 460 at 1 third revs,as thats the max oil flow for my hammer, anymore will blow the hammer  The only trouble is the machine is quite slow in its movements & i could`nt get out the way quick enough.I thought the rock was coming in the cab.Thanfully it made contact with the side step, smashing it clean off & bending the brackets. The side skirt & machine is untouched. It could have been worse. The thing is,if i had`nt have managed to move a bit,it would have missed the step & cab & rolled down the side of the track  .

That 1 inch square mesh. You should see my Hitachi.I have the same mesh on the outside, then behind it i have very small plastering mesh,to stop the small fragments. In 2 yrs i`ve lost 2 top & 1 bottom windscreens on my Hitachi(with the mesh). Not lost any since i fitted the extra smaller mesh.It IS a pain to see through, but you learn to look through it,not at it.Once you get used to it its fine.I sprayed it all matt black on my Hitachi which helps.I hate driving any digger without the mesh now as i`m so used to it.My Hitachi had toughend `screens which explode, which is not the best for hammering. The Volvo has Laminated, although after a few weeks its now cracked & looks like map of the London to Scotland main line!!

No,cant alter the flow. Its a early 2003 machine with analog dials/display screen. The later machines i`ve driven(EC140,EC210 & EC460B)have the digital dials/screen,which you can "go" into to alter the flow rates etc.
