Is that a trailer than can drop it bin?
How much of that model Hymac carried over to the 580D? I see it has a non standard ram collar on the bucket. Seems like a weakness on the early rams.

Hello Pete,
As Martyn says a fair bit of wear in the pins. A fair bit of lift in the slew ring too I think.
I did simila mods. on the gland collars on a late 1977 580C and on the bucket ram of my 880C. So it was not just the earlier ones that had the problem.
I had one new 580 C in 1977 and couldn't keep the slew motor tight.
It was secured only by its bolts whilst our Priestman 120s which used the identical Staffa Motor had them bolted and secured by two large dowels. 
(much better engineered) 
I part exchanged that 580C complete with loose slew motor for a Priestman 108 in 1979 when it was just two years old and never regretted it .

I remember the Hymacs that I worked on had slew bolts that were slack.Seemed a common problem.Another problem was that the welds fractured on the frame tubes. The O & K range of excavators were pretty good. I have been told that the Hitachi excavators today are a very good machine.

Did hear of a Hymac equipped with a 5 tine grab at a local car breakers, the owners wife had been on it all day. She left off to go in and cook the tea so the owner got in the cab. Dropped the grab on a heap of scrap, lifted the arm and the superstructure parted company with the undercarriage.....
