Modern day Excavators

Post #1 by Nick Drew » Sun Jul 08, 2007 11:14 pm

Just thought I would start a thread here to prove that this site is not all about old machinery infact far from it, I think the admin guys here would be more than happy top diversify and show all kinds of machines.

As our member Ross has pointed out before excavators are my favourite machines so here are some shots of machines I have operated recently.

Here we go again:
Lots of non-tilting grading buckets.

Seriously:
What do you think about the EC140 compared to the other machines? I´m just curious as I (as you know) live in "Volov Town".

Robban C,

You just dont give up do you!! :D We sadly dont get the tilt bucket thing here yet!!

I really rate the EC140 it is a good machine, I have a good friend here in the UK who is a sales rep for Volvo and I always do my best to promote the Volvo Range of excavators on his behalf.

They have everything you could ask for in an excavator and more!!

I would love to come and visit the Volvo demo ground can you sort it out for me Robban!! :D :D

Yeah nice pics

The Komatsu machines look tidy as does the Volvo. Infact they all look tidy :dizzy:

No tilt buckets around here. There a specialist fittment and wont take the abuse.

Hi Ross,

Thanks for the comments, I have to admit I am a bit of an "old woman" with any machine I operate!! Its a reputation that I have built up over the years, and one that I inherited from my Dad, I dont think its a bad thing I just hate to see equipment being abused

My nickname at work is polish  :D :D

As I´m just hired, not an employee of Volvo Customer Center that would be dificult for me. But if they decide to hire me next summer for the Volvo Days and you come here I´ll get you a cup of coffe.

Beeing hired (Volvo hires me by the hours from my company) means a lot of confidence from both parts but no possibilitys to do anything "extra".

It´s satisfying to read that you like the Volvo excavators.
Have you ever had the opportunity to test anyone of their compact excavators?

Not for a longtime Robban I think the last one I operated was back in 2000/1 ? It was an EC50 which was really just a Pel job with a Volvo paint job.

Not that good as I recall, I hear that they are much better now??

The French made (ex Pel Job factory) compacts are jerky in slewing. I have one of those, an EC35 from 2001. Jerky slewing, especially when turning uphill, but the rest of the digging hydraulics are very good. And really 0strong, I broke my ripper the other day.
The hydraulics for the tracks aren´t the best but the´ll do. And the footpedals are to short.

The Korea made compacts are smoother to drive than the older French made machines.

The new French made EC35C seems really promising. I have driven it (a protoype) and it is really smooth, even in slewing and has a nice cabin as well. The one I drove lacked digging force but it was a prototype still with some flaws in it.

French made: EC 13 - EC 50, ECR 28 - ECR 48. I don´t know where the EC 70 were made.
Korea made: ECR 58, ECR 88 and EC55.
I hope you get an opportunity to test an ECR 58 Plus or 88 Plus. The 58 are very quick and still quite smooth. The 88 are not as quick as the 58 but still as a normal machine and very nice to drive. If you test a non-Plus machine you should remember that Plus (and some converted non-Plus machines) means several improvements regarding stability, hydraulics etc.

The Komatsus new cabin looks very nice. That´s really good machines! As i work with Volvos i grade those pretty high especially the cabin! The old Samsung-Volvo machine, the one with the rounded front of the cabin, wasn´t neat at all but the B-series there pretty good, and now the C-series is awesome! Go and get a test run in a EC210C most wanted with a proper installed Indexator RT60B proportional controlled Rototilt! My neighbor has a Komatsu PC130 and he installed proportional controllers in the joysticks. At first the they there not calibrated, so i borrowed the keys an evening and got out to the machine and had it setup properly. The next day when i spoke to him, he described the difference in the controls like this: I almost fell out of the chair!!
