Hydraulic Excavators of 1982 (treat)

Post #1 by newjcb123uk » Tue Dec 21, 2010 11:26 am

Thought I'd treat all my friends on CMN with some photos of what the British excavator market had to offer in 1982. The pictures are from a booklet I have kept and read for years and years from whenever the magazine Contract Journal conducted independent tests on each machines overall Track records.

The tests included overall evaluations on the likes of performance, fuel consumption, ergonomics, available specifications, operator comfort and generally anything that would be considered if someone was considering purchasing a machine in the 12/13 ton class. It would be great if this test was done every year to give customers independent detailed information to assist decisions on competitors machines.

The JCB 805BT won in this particular year with a very close sirprisingly second place going to the Priestman 108S (totally amazed :wtf: )

Other manufacturers that took place included Poclain, Mitsubishi, Atlas, O&K, Hitachi, Komatsu, International and good old Hymac. :geek:

(Ps my computer is on a disgusting download speed (I hate BT :arrrrgh: ) untill late January 2011 so uploading these is a complete chore at present  )

Cheers for posting Chris :claphands: I remember having the same brochure, might actually be in the loft
I am impressed with the Priestman operator, very nice, clean white overalls!

And some more cracker action shots from the 1982 CJ Dig in.

Loved the International (so clumsy and just plain functional in design :ugeek: )

Great photos Chris, thank you. Some of these machines would not have been common over here with us at all and others only appeared in s/h market.

Thankyou Chris! An early present. Cant believe that was almost 30 years ago, happy memories of most of those makes working around the area at some stage. :D
