Help with Hymac 580D

Post #1 by essexpete » Thu Dec 02, 2010 5:40 pm

Left track not operating properly. It will move under its own steam but have realised that left track is not operating. I thought it strruggled onto muck heap yesterday.
If I lift the machine so left track is clear then operate the lever: Going forward (drive at back) it sounds like something is turning but not the track. Reverse and the track tries to turn but appears to jam.
If I track with both it operates forward fairly smoothly but reverse produces some alarming noises from the drive train.
Obviously I will take off the large plate to have a look (not in this shyte weather) but I wonder if anyone has any idea of what it might be.

Thanks Peter

Hi Pete, sounds like a broken sprocket drive shaft to me, or possibly a gear in the gearbox itself. I would (when the weather is feeling kinder) drop the chain drive cover off and get somebody to operate the drive on that track with it in the air.
You may even find that the large sprocket is loose if the main drive shaft has broken which is what I suspect.
Could also be the chain itself as they have been known to break too.
Let us know what you find?

Jeremy

Thanks Jeremy, what I was wondering was why it seems to want to turn but jam one way and not turn at all the other?

Hi Jeremy.
It is sitting on top of the muck heap at the moment. Looking for a litte kinder weather before starting to fiddle around. I can still use to a certain extent.

Thanks

Finally got around to investigating tracking or lack of. I could not belt out the master pin (I do not have any Oxy Acet) so removed the track by minidigger fashion with help of telehandler. Bearing are shagged in the gear box allowing the shafts to move out of mesh under load. It looks a pig to dismantle. Three of the gears look rough and one of the shafts peering in from the top cover.
Any advice appreciated. Shall have to phone around for some breaker spares but I guess they will be dear. How far do you go, the machine is getting quite rough now.
