Hello Steve
Interesting find. Heres an earlier Yumbo truck-mount (1940s??) .
Interesting geometry and hydraulics on the shovel. That combined arm/ram must have taken some stick??

Fred that picture must show one of the first ever "hydraulic excavators " ever - Yumbo derived from Jumbo the elephant due to the shape of the boom - like an elephants trunk) by (two italian brothers) Benatti and Hydromac fame.

Yes Chris, 1940 something and it was made in Italy.

You would probably know about their rarity in Ireland but i saw one on the shore road outside enniskillen at a farm im sure its still there and it used t to the odd days work too !

Well, I found a photo which realy does show the earliest "first ever" of the Yumbo line.
The Y54 is another on the same lines and the third and fourth photos of the Y 35 clearly shows the boom shape which gave them their name.
They seem to have stuck to the tubular dipper arm for many years. Note the Mitsubishi connection.
